How We Are Paid

Northwest Jackpots earns money through affiliate commissions. This page explains exactly how that works, including how the ranking table on our home page is assembled and paid for, so you can read everything else on this site with the full picture in mind.

The short version

When you click a link from this site to a casino and later open an account or deposit money, the operator may pay us a commission. That commission comes out of the operator’s marketing budget. It does not increase the price you pay, because as a player you pay nothing to join a casino in the first place. It does, however, mean that we have a commercial relationship with some of the operators we write about, and you deserve to know how that relationship works before you trust a single recommendation on this site.

We would rather you read this page and then judge our coverage with clear eyes than discover the arrangement later and wonder why nobody mentioned it. Everything below is the whole arrangement. There is no second revenue stream, no paid advertorial programme and no hidden arrangement with any operator.

Affiliate commissions

The core of our income is affiliate commission. Operators provide tracking links; when a reader follows one and becomes a real-money player, the operator pays either a flat fee per acquisition or a percentage share of the revenue the player generates. The percentages vary by operator and by deal, and the deals are renegotiated from time to time. None of that cost passes to the reader.

Every outbound casino link on this site routes through an internal redirect and carries the nofollow sponsored attribute. That tells search engines the link is paid placement, which is the honest classification. The redirect also lets us count clicks so we can see which pages genuinely help readers reach an operator they wanted to find.

Some links on this site are not affiliate links at all. Links to the Gambling Commission, GAMSTOP, BeGambleAware and GamCare go directly to those organisations and earn nothing. We link to them because a UK gambling information site that omits the regulator and the self-exclusion scheme would not be worth reading.

The ranking and the board

Our home page carries a ranked comparison table, which we call the board. Four operators currently occupy the four positions on that board. We state plainly what the transparency rules require: those four operators pay for their placement. Their positions on the board are bought and negotiated, not the pure output of our testing. If an operator declines to pay, it does not appear on the board, however good its offer might look on paper.

That is the arrangement, and we think naming it is more useful than pretending the table is a neutral leaderboard. A reader who knows the board is paid inventory can treat it as advertising and read our guides as the real editorial work. The guides, the payment method pages, the responsible gambling coverage and the explainers are written independently of any commercial relationship.

The scores shown beside each board entry are our own editorial judgements. They are not supplied by operators and cannot be bought. A paying operator can secure a position on the board but cannot secure a specific score, and no operator has seen a score before publication.

Editorial independence

The costing work on this site, including the bonus models and expected-value figures, is produced independently of the payment side. Nobody involved in negotiating affiliate terms sets, edits or approves the figures used in our guides. Where a figure appears, it is stated as a model assumption rather than a quote from any named promotion, because promotional terms change and we will not represent a snapshot as a permanent fact.

We do not publish the specific promotional terms of the four board operators in our prose. Their terms belong to them and change without notice; the board itself carries the current offer lines. What our pages do instead is explain the categories, the maths and the risks, so that whatever terms you eventually read on an operator’s own site, you can evaluate them yourself.

If we ever conclude that a paying operator treats players badly, the commercial agreement does not stop us saying so. The honest alternative is to remove the operator from the board, which has happened before and will happen again.

What we do not do

We do not accept payment for coverage framed as editorial. We do not publish press releases as articles. We do not rank operators we have no commercial relationship with as if they were recommendations. We do not write promotional copy for offshore operators that obscures the absence of UK Gambling Commission licensing, and every page touching offshore operators says plainly what a UK licence would give you that an offshore one does not: GAMSTOP participation, alternative dispute resolution, regulated deposit limits and segregated customer funds.

We do not help anyone defeat a self-exclusion scheme, a blocking tool or a register. Some of the subject matter on this site, particularly pages about casinos not on Gamstop, exists because people search for it; our approach is to inform honestly about the risks rather than to encourage or assist evasion.

Questions

If anything on this page is unclear, or if you want to know whether a specific arrangement exists behind a specific page, ask us. Corrections are welcome and are handled the same week they arrive. The purpose of this disclosure is to let you weigh our words with the commercial context in hand, and we would rather answer an awkward question than leave one hanging.
